Garofalo moves into top HR role at Unum, Farrar announces retirement

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Unum Group (NYSE:UNM) today announced that Diane Garofalo will become the new senior vice president of Corporate Human Resources. Eileen Farrar, who currently holds that position, has announced her retirement from the company at year end.

“Eileen has made many significant contributions in her 33 years with Unum, most recently as a member of my management team,” said Thomas R. Watjen, chief executive officer of Unum. “We will certainly miss Eileen’s leadership, and we wish her well in retirement.”

Garofalo, currently senior vice president of the Benefit Center for Unum US, will assume her new role effective June 1. During her tenure at Unum, Garofalo has held many positions within the underwriting, human resources, benefits and products organizations. Throughout her career, she has had responsibility for the management of the group life product line, underwriting of national accounts, and the development and implementation of human resource strategies.

Garofalo has earned the designation of Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), is a member of the international foundation of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists and has taught classes for industry professionals seeking such certification.

“Diane has had a successful 32-year career with Unum, and I have tremendous confidence in her ability to lead the Human Resources organization and support the needs of our business areas,” Watjen said. “Eileen will be working closely with Diane through the remainder of the year to ensure a smooth transition.”
