Unum Elevates Executives to Senior Vice President Roles

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Unum Group (NYSE: UNM) announced today the promotion of seven executives to senior vice president positions.

“Each of these individuals has exhibited strong leadership in his or her respective area and has a track record of leading others to achieve results,” said President and CEO Thomas R. Watjen. “They have directly contributed on a broader level to the success of Unum over the past several years, and have helped to enhance our company’s reputation among customers, regulators, shareholders and public officials – all key constituents vital to our long-term success.”

Promotions at the corporate level include:

  • Mike Temple, senior vice president and chief risk officer
    Temple was previously the vice president and chief risk officer for Unum Group. Based in Chattanooga, he will continue overseeing the company’s enterprise risk management program. He joined the company in 1985.
  • Vicki Corbett, senior vice president and controller
    Corbett was previously the vice president and controller for Unum Group. Based in Chattanooga, she will continue her responsibility for the company’s financial reporting with the Securities and Exchange Commission and state regulators, as well as other financial duties. She joined the company in 1979.
  • Kevin McMahon, senior vice president and treasurer
    McMahon was previously the vice president and treasurer for Unum Group. Based in Chattanooga, he will continue to be in charge of all banking, capital market activities, credit facility negotiations, corporate development and corporate insurance coverages. He joined the company in 2006.
  • Scott Maker, senior vice president and chief government affairs officer
    Maker was previously the vice president and chief government affairs officer for Unum Group. Based in Portland, he will continue to manage the company’s federal and state legislative and lobbying activities. He joined the company in 1996.

Promotions within Unum US, the company’s primary business unit, include:

  • Tim Arnold, senior vice president of Integrated Underwriting
    Arnold was previously the vice president of Integrated Underwriting for Unum US, a subsidiary of Unum Group. Based in Chattanooga, Arnold will continue his responsibility for underwriting Group Disability, Life, Long Term Care and voluntary benefits products. He joined the company in 1985.
  • Don Boutin, senior vice president of National Client Group
    Boutin was previously the vice president of National Client Group. Based in Portland, he will continue to oversee the company’s efforts to attract, serve and retain employers with 2,000 or more employees. He joined the company in 1985.
  • Diane Garofalo, senior vice president of Long Term Disability and Individual Disability Benefits
    Garofalo was previously the vice president of benefits operations. Based in Portland, she will continue to oversee the company’s overall claims management and adjudication for the Long Term Disability, Individual Disability and Long Term Care product offerings. She joined the company in 1980.
