Customer survey earns carrier high marks in claimant satisfaction
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Nine out of 10 customers receiving benefits from Unum’s voluntary short
term disability or accident insurance would recommend the company to
their co-workers, according to an independent customer satisfaction
survey.
The survey also found about nine out of 10 customers are satisfied with
Unum’s overall handling of their voluntary short term disability and
accident claims, from the time they filed a claim to when they received
a benefit payment.
Unum’s voluntary critical illness coverage also received high scores
from customers, with 86 percent of them satisfied with the overall
claims handling and 84 percent saying they would recommend the product.
“The findings of this survey show that Unum is committed to not only
providing a quality voluntary product but also strong customer service,”
said Neiciee Durrence, vice president of voluntary benefits at Unum.
“The dedication and strength of our claims professionals throughout the
claims process are clearly reflected in these results.”
Customers also expressed high satisfaction with Unum’s benefit
communications and timely payments.
“I was very satisfied with the whole process,” responded one customer
who filed an accident claim. “It was easy to understand, and I never had
to call anyone for an update. Very shortly after I filed my claim, I
received my benefit payment.”
Portland, Maine-based research firm Market Decisions conducted 568
telephone-based surveys in May with short term disability, accident and
critical illness claimants who had received a claim payment between
November 2009 and January 2010.
Unum currently ranks second among other carriers for voluntary inforce
premiums, according to a 2009 carrier survey conducted by the Eastbridge
Consulting Group. Sales for the company’s voluntary benefits have grown
15 percent on average each year for the past decade.
