PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Unum (NYSE: UNM) was named the best large employer in Maine on Tuesday, the fourth consecutive year the company has received recognition in the "Best Places to Work in Maine" competition. The award recognizes companies that have established and consistently promote outstanding workplace environments, and this year a total of 31 Maine businesses were named as finalists.

So far this year, Unum has also been named a Best Employer in Tennessee, made the list of Best Places to Work in Insurance, received the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles Award and was named to Newsweek's Greenest Companies in America List.

The award assessment is a two-part process designed to gather detailed data about each participating company. In part one, the employer completes a questionnaire and in part two, a random sampling of employees completes an employee survey. The results of the employee survey make up 75 percent of the evaluation.
